Peikko’s solutions strengthen the foundation of Boliden’s new electrolysis plant.

Boliden owns one of the world’s most efficient copper smelters, Rönnskär in Skelleftehamn, which is a central part of the company’s operations. When the electrolysis plant was struck by a major fire, it became clear that a critical part of the facility needed to be rebuilt. To ensure a fast and sustainable reconstruction, Boliden chose to initiate close cooperation with NCC. Together, they are now taking on the task of creating a modern electrolysis plant that both strengthens the facility’s capacity and lays the foundation for continued competitive and sustainable production—where modern technology and long-term solutions meet an industrial tradition of global significance.

In the reconstruction of the electrolysis plant, Peikko contributed solutions that both simplified the construction process and strengthened the structure. In the base slab, PSB®-J was installed together with MODIX® L12, forming the foundation for a robust and efficient reinforcement solution. At a later production stage, this was complemented with STUDIX®, which was used during the second casting. Thanks to STUDIX®, protruding reinforcement on site could be avoided while achieving fast and safe installation.
The combination of PSB®, MODIX®, and STUDIX® clearly demonstrates how Peikko’s solutions can contribute to efficient workflows, high quality, and safe working environments in complex construction projects.
