Slimmer than ever: 8” Slim Floor DELTABEAM® assembly made possible for a renovation project

Tapestry Moon Assisted Living is a senior housing development project located at 550 Cherrington Parkway in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. The 4-story building was an Embassy Suite Hotel before Crown Senior Living, the developer of the project, proposed to convert the building into a 220-unit assisted living and memory care facility. To increase the number of units inside the existing hotel, a 4-floor addition was built in the building’s atrium.

Since the original building was constructed using hollow-core slabs, it was important to keep the existing 8” floor to floor depth for this new addition. The challenge with using hollow-core was that it required being erected using a crane through the roof. To avoid this costly process, DELTABEAM® was used in combination with ComSlab® long span metal deck so that the components could be hauled inside the building without a crane. The use of DELTABEAM® and ComSlab® resulted in maintaining the existing floor to floor heights and maximizing floor to ceiling heights, creating a slim floor assembly totaling 8 inches in depth.

The Architect for this project, Distyle Design is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the engineering office is Meyer Borgman Johnson in DePere Wisconsin was the structural designer of the addition. A.M. Higley Construction was chosen as the general contractor for the full interior renovation of the rooms and atrium.

Tapestry Moon Assisted Living is scheduled to open in Spring of 2019.
